It is a shock to most doctors if a reporter suddenly presents and asks about an alleged adverse outcome previously under care of a doctor.
It is understandable that a doctor cannot recall everything and every patient immediately. Therefore he is entitled time to find facts. He may politely inform the reporter that it is appropriate to refer to appropriate clinical notes and identify information with colleagues. The doctor may send regards to his patient. A doctor appreciates that a sick person may present a different opinion from that of himself.
The doctor may then end the first interview, and continue with fact finding. It is sensible to alert team support for assistance.
