End of Year Message to Staffs of UH

December 26 2012

This is a message jointly issued by Dr A Lee and meself, to all staffs and affiliated doctors to Union Hospital.

We are turning a page.

It was once thought that the Mayan civilization predicted the world to end on December 21 2012.  We are still surviving and may therefore look at another interpretation.  Mayans were in fact very positive people.  December 21 2012 might be seen as a change from one period to another.  The environment is worst before the change-over time. So things are changing for the better afterwards.

We are maturing

In the past year, actually since the turn to 2012, there were many times when others criticized heavily on us, and sometimes private medicine as a whole.  Whether they were fair or otherwise we know better than anyone else.  We also had a few occasions indicating that we had room for improvement.  But our teams stayed coherent and colleagues helped one another.  We defended integrity of institution and ourselves.  Hopefully our staffs all understand by now that central management always takes the final responsibility.  We do not leave any single person to blame for individual outcome.  Individuals are more responsible to maintain personal integrity and adherence to policies.

The institute has matured handling to expectation from the lay public and monitoring authorities; in relation both to gradual or rapid changes in society norms.  There are good signs to indicate that again we are on the fast track to advance, the same way as we were since incorporation.

Moving ahead in 2013

In 2013, we are going to take advantage of temporary reduction in workload pressure to re-decorate our wards, so as to improve client privacy and convenience.  We shall launch good payment packages to reassure the lay public that UH exceeds their expectation on private insitution.  We shall continue to recruit good talents and souls.  We deliver good care in any situation, and we face any adversity wearing our smiles.  Clients and patients know our heart, from the way we help them.

Our Vision

We have shown that we can deliver good care.  It is time we evolve our institutional character.  The Hospital would be a RELIABLE institute, and our staffs are COMPASSIONATE souls to colleagues and clients alike.  These virtues will put us in a different league from others.

Reliability combines both meeting expectations for positive experience & outcome, and minimal influence from uncertainty.  When one is compassionate, he/she understands expectation from clients, friends, colleagues and even people who do not share the same viewpoint.  He/she also walks an extra mile to do fulfill needs, as if the need comes from his/her own self.  Such attitudes help colleagues, neighbour teams and clients.  It is the best approach to foster fellowship and earn respect.  Clients also feel the impact and the accompanying warmth.
