In May 2013, Union Hospital proceeded to launch ceilinged charges for neonatal care.
Basically, babies delivered by members of the Department of O&G in the maternal ceiling payment package plan, under care of members of the Department of Paediatrics may enjoy the scheme. The child is born full term (after 37 completed weeks of gestation). A specially qualified doctor (subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine; a doctor specified by the Department of O&G, UH; or a doctor specialized in fetal imaging in the Hospital Authority) performed ultrasound examination on the fetus and declared normal fetal morphology and health.
There is an entrance fee of HK$300 for each baby. The first expenses of HK$10,000 is borne by the parents.
Union Hospital specified conditions for which subsequent HK$ 100,000 cost of care is borne by the Hospital. It is logical that optional care is not covered.
Parents and healthcare workers may refer to official announcements from the Hospital.
There is a lot of difficulty in estimation of costs with care for babies. Union Hospital tried another major step ahead. Hopefully prospective parents appreciate the sincerity and enjoy good care in the institute.
