There was rumor that agents might be assembling mainland mothers to deliver in A&Es.
UH and our teams do not want to be involved in such incidents. Deliveries which are not imminent will be sent away to public hospitals. Unavoidable deliveries will be effected by obstetricians or emergency medicine specialists appointed ad hoc by the Hospital.
A doctor accompanying a mainland mum to A&E attracts referral to the Medical Council and ICAC. The actions will be effected by nurses and security staffs directly.
The first of such mothers attracts a surcharge of HK$150000 on top to routine fees. Increases will be exponential instead of linear. Nurses may effect surcharges before Jan 1 2013 for non-booked cases should it be necessary.
In case any doctor/nurse/staff is asked by visiting colleagues, please let them understand the position of UH so that they are not embarrassed. The problem will be self limiting, subject to us demonstrating absolute determination.
