Ares Leung plays active role in clinical governance of Union Hospital (www.union.org).

It is conceptually important to consider hospital administration in light of hospital governance, clinical excellence and corporate governance.

Union Hospital was established by Dr Lee Shau Kee and began operations in 1994.   There are 400 beds if nursery cots are counted together.  It is a general hospital covering all important aspects of healthcare.  Flagship services include woman and child care, accidents and emergency medicine, cardiology.

Each institute develops her character over time.   Union Hospital provides high quality, appropriate and affordable private medical care by responsible professionals in an accountable institution.  In 2013, Union Hospital adopted reliability and empathy as core values of hers and staffs.

There is no doubt that Union Hospital enjoys good reputation among clients, lay public, and the professional arena.  In shorter than 2 decades, UH became an institute illustrative to the morals of private medicine. Towards the end of 2013, UH adopted reliability and empathy as core values.

It is well established that patient trust is a function of perceived competence and perceived care.  Perceived competence affects how much clients may rest problems and safety to their attendants.  It is therefore how reliable they perceive their helpers are.  Empathy is a central approach in winning perception that one cares. Therefore a reliable and empathetic worker wins trust of his clients.

Staffs of Union Hospital are requested to interpret CARE in a special way.  C for cost-effective, A for (pro-)active, R for reliable, and E for empathetic.

The Hospital strives to develop a non-blame culture through educational attitude to solve problems.
