My name in Chinese
Leung Kwok Ling Ares is written in Chinese traditional form as 梁國齡.
The character LEUNG (梁) means a bridge where land with wood (木), and water (水) meet. Such meaning gives me good boost in morale because all the time I am trying to bridge between ideal and reality, between plans and actualization, between good private medicine and reasonable public healthcare, between healthcare institutions and the professionals, between patients and their carers, and so on.
The word LEUNG is made up of 3 parts. ‘Water’ (水) constitutes the left upper part and ‘wood’ (木) makes the base. On the right upper part the component character may usually be read as a sabre. In very old Chinese calligraphy it is actually the oldest form of ‘trauma’ or ‘wound’ (創). Oops, it means surgery!
The character of KWOK (國) means country now. In the old days KWOK 國 means a state, which is smaller than a country. It shows matters including weapons or tools confined within a boundary.
The character LING (齡) is composed of character ‘TEETH’ (齒) on the left side and ‘ORDER’ (令) on the right side. It means age now but it could be separated into teeth plus order. Teeth sometimes symbolizes verbal promise. Be it coincidential or not, I would like to be taken by others as a man of my words. Order is composed of a roof on the upper part and the drawing of a person kneeling in the bottom, symbolizing that an individual takes an order from leader of a house.
It happens that rulers of a state used JADE (玉), meaning good stone, to symbolize themselves in conveying instructions through instruments such as stamps. JADE is the middle name of my wife! In the same way as JADE completes orders of a state, my wife completes me.
What a coincidence!
